The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to make
Governor Olosegun Mimiko the new chairman of the Forum party’s
governors’ forum.
The
Ondo State governor has been adjudged by the party chieftains as the
best candidate to lead the forum, due to his wealth of experience.
Making this known to Punch, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, the coordinator of the forum, said about nine PDP governors were in support of the choice of Mimiko as
leader of the association.
He said: Am aware that about nine of them have already thrown their support behind Mimiko to lead the forum, because they said they want very steady and organised hands now that the PDP is in opposition.”
He explained that an earlier meeting which was to be held by the party had to be rescheduled because the governors were busy with negotiations on selecting a leader for the forum.
The PDP governors forum is a break-away from the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) which emerged following the emergence of Amaechi as the NGF chairman.
Back in March, the first and the only chairman of the PDP forum, former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio was asked to resign from the post for attending a meeting presided over by the chairman of the NGF and governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi, without notifying them.
