
The IDP camp was built to house victims of the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northern part of the country. The displaced persons have been living as refugees in their
own fatherland.

It was gathered that the babies and their mothers are in a stable health.
Tanimu further revealed to journalists that no fewer than 2,000 displaced persons were evacuated by the agency from Geidam in Yobe State to Sokoto on Wednesday, May 6, 2015.

He revealed that most of the affected persons were from Kebbi, while the rest were from Sokoto State.
“They were earlier displaced due to insurgent activities in Doron-Baga in Borno and they fled to Gegeme in Difa state, Niger Republic as refugees. However, they were also unfortunately deported back to Geidam in Yobe state after an insurgent attack at their IDPs camp in Niger Republic.

“It was from Geidam that the IDP’s were screened by NEMA and security agencies, and the agency evacuated them to Sokoto,’’ Tanimu said.
The NEMA boss, however, condemned the Kebbi State Governor, Saidu Dakingari, for disowning the camp in the state.
Dakingari was quoted to have alleged that the refugees were not indigenes of Kebbi and may be insurgents.
The governor reportedly commissioned a committee to investigate the IDP’s from the state at the Sokoto camp before evacuating them.
This is coming as Niger Republic yesterday deported about 1, 200 Nigerians.
Isa Umar Gusau, adviser to Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, said Niger had so far deported over 6, 000 people after the Islamist militant increasingly creep into its border from northern Nigeria.
