Former member of the House of Representatives Haruna
Yerima has said that president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, should probe
ex-governor of Borno state Ali Modu Sheriff.
According to him, Buhari must scrupulously investigate Modu Sheriff and other security chiefs involved in the 2009 Boko Haram crisis in the state for him to realize his resolution of tackling the terrorism.
Yerima said the former governor as well as the then Borno state commissioner of police, state director of the Department of Security Service (DSS) as well as the army commander in the state during the 2009 crisis should be probed to organise detail clarification on the genesis and the transformation of the sect into full-blown terrorist group.
Yerima told Daily Trust reporters that without the full security probe of Sheriff and the security chiefs, Buhari’s pledge of ending the Boko Haram sect, will be difficult.
He advised the president-elect to dismiss the security clearance granted Sheriff by the DSS, saying the move “was politically-motivated.”
Recently, Buhari stated that his government will try and work with Nigeria’s neighbours which is the first thing should have done such as Chad, Cameroon and Niger who are fighting Boko Haram for Nigeria.
His words: “Look at Chad helping Nigeria or Niger, or Cameroon itself. This nation has been humiliated by PDP. Nigeria has been humiliated by PDP. God willing, with our experiences, we will quickly marshal support and we are asking Boko Haram to pack and go.”
