The threats by the Bayelsa Youth Vanguard (BYV)
to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential campaign
if President Goodluck Jonathan shows up in the state with his wife,
Dame Patience Jonathan, has been dismissed by the Bayelsa state
Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, Premium Times reports.
The group, had accused the First Lady of causing disunity among youth in Rivers state where she hails from, threatning her to accompany her husband to the rally in the state.
The Governor, while reacting to the threat by the group, described their outburst as most unfortunate and uncalled for.
He maintained that the government and the people of the state will accord President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, and other members of the first family their due honour, respect when they visit.
He warned youth groups planning to attack Mrs. Jonathan to shun the idea, saying violence is unnecessary and against the collective will and aspirations of the government and people of Bayelsa.
The Governor, who happens to be the former Attorney-General of the state, said security agencies have been alerted to deal decisively with anybody or group who would attempt to disrupt the planned PDP campaign rally slated for the February 5 in Yenagoa, the state capital.
It will be recalled that Governor Dickson was one of the PDP governors that ignored the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Organization of the party in Abuja.
